A Very Memorable Thanksgiving

The most memorable Thanksgiving for me was in 1997.  We had so much to be thankful for.

On November 26, 1997, the day before Thanksgiving, I finally got my oldest daughter her drivers license.  My oldest daughter, Cassandra, has always been a pain and a joy.  She was the one who had to always learn the hard the way.  She is also very loving and giving.  As a teenager, she was usually causing me trouble.

That evening, I let her drive my car, a 1983 Mercury Grand Marquis, to her high school to see the play, Sound of Music.  She had a friend, Kaycee, and her younger sister, Bernice, in the car with her.

On the way there, they were in an accident.  Cassandra drifted off the road and while trying to get back she overcorrected.  The car hit a fence, rolled on to the side and launched in the air.  While in the air, the car did a 180 and landed upright; the bead broke on the tire and stopped the vehicle from rolling.

The car was totaled.  The passenger side of the front was crushed down about three inches from the headrest and the floorboard was buckled.  All the windows were broke except one; the one our rottweiler, Sabatina, slobbered all over.

Bernice was in the back seat without a seat belt, and she rolled with the car.  Cassandra and Kaycee were in the front with their belts on.  All three girls received minor injuries and walked away.  Bernice had bruised ribs. Kaycee had a stiff neck.  Cassandra had a concussion.  A Deputy at the scene told my husband, Dan, that he has seen accident with less car damage, where the people did not survive.  The Lord was definitely with them.

About a year later, Cassandra told me Love Can Build a Bridge was on the radio.  She told me that she knows, that God sent a loving bridge that the car went over that night, to save them from harm.  The song really means a lot to her now.  It was a miracle.

Cassandra is now in the US Navy.  Kaycee is married.  Bernice has two years left of high school.  They are all happy with their lives.

I will always be so thankful!!
